Animal Welfare

We only use animal fabrics and yarns in our knitwear and they are always certified. Together with our suppliers, we continuously strive to improve their animal welfare practices. We strive to only use animal fibers if the methods used to raise the animals comply with the Five Freedoms.

The Five Freedoms for animal welfare as they are currently named:
  • Freedom from hunger or thirst;
  • Freedom from discomfort;
  • Freedom from pain, injury or disease;
  • Freedom to express normal behavior;
  • Freedom from fear and suffering.

Animal materials in our collections

For our high-quality knitwear we like to use wool. Wool types we use are alpaca, merino, cashmere and sheep wool. The wool we choose is certified and we actively promote the use of non-mulesing wool. Since 2020 we have decided to always add at least one vegan alternative to wool in our knitwear.

Our wool has the following certification:
  • Responsible Wool Standard Certification (RWS): This certification requires that wool comes from farms that take a progressive approach to managing their land, respect their sheep, and uphold the Five Freedoms of animal welfare.
  • Global Recycled Standard (GRS): This certificate can be assigned to products that contain at least 50% recycled material. Each production phase must be certified in this.
Our Italian Alpaca suppliers are also associated with:
  • The International Alpaca Association (IAA): A non-profit organization created to protect the image of alpaca fiber while promoting and ensuring sustainable practices.
  • The Italian Alpaca Association (SIA): A non-profit organization dedicated to the development of alpaca breeding in Italy in increasing and improving their alpacas and farms.

Animal materials that we do not use

MOHAIR

Since 2019 we have boycotted the use of mohair.

LEARN

Since 2019 we have banned the use of real leather. For all our leather items and patches we now use a vegan alternative made of non-chemically treated PU leather by Leathertex.

Other animal-derived materials that we have always strictly excluded from our collections include:
  • Coat;
  • Feathers and down;
  • Angora;
  • Bone, horn and teeth;
  • Any other part of endangered, exotic or wild animals.
