TAKING RESPONSIBILITY

Alchemist takes a stand against the overproduction and discount culture in the fashion industry. We do not participate in Black Friday Sales. Instead, we donate 5% of our Black Friday Weekend revenue to Fashion Revolution to support them in funding their campaigns for a fair, safe and transparent fashion industry. We do not want to judge anyone for shopping during the Black Friday sales. For many, this is a great way to find necessary items at a discounted price. It is our wish to raise awareness about the effects of Black Friday on the clothing industry. We hope you feel inspired to shop mindfully - not only on Black Friday, but always. A sustainable wardrobe starts with a sustainable mindset.

TIP #01: LEARN
Learn more about the fashion industry. We recommend starting with The True Cost, Redress the Future or Genaaid.

TIP #02: PLAN
Schedule a day or afternoon off and dive into your closet. See what items you like to wear and how you like to style them. Try different ways to style them: experiment with layering, mix and match different textures, or try to recreate an outfit you saw online that you loved. Take a picture of all the outfits you like so you can refer to them when you’re feeling uninspired.

TIP #03: MARK
If you feel like you’re missing something in your wardrobe, write it down. Then, put an X behind it every time you notice you’re missing that item. This way, you’ll know for sure that you’ll actually wear the item before you buy it. Wait until there are at least five X’s before you buy.

TIP #04: RESEARCH
Before you buy a new item, browse through different brands to find your style. Platforms like GoodOnYou, Fairify and WhenSaraSmiles can give you more insight into how well brands are performing in terms of sustainability. Don’t forget to do your own research too! If you want to learn more about Alchemist, you can read our Sustainability page, where we publish our information and update it every six months.

TIP #05: EXAMINE
Examine your shopping habits. When are you most tempted to shop? Is it something to do with your emotions, your cycle, or are you triggered by what you see online? Understanding that you will have moments where you are easily tempted is the first step to becoming more aware of how you consume. Accepting that these moments will occur will also help you work with them.

TIP #06: ASK
Before you go shopping, ask yourself these questions. Do I need this item? How often will I use this item? Who made this item? What is this item made of?
